It's that time again - the voting is now open for the 2017 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. This year, they are supported by Pizza Express Live in conjunction with Peroni.

The winners will be announced at the awards bash in Pizza Express Live in Holborn, London on 10th October. The deadline for nominations is 16th August 2017.

The voting for these awards is open - each award has an open text box for you to submit your nomination. In case you're wondering about who is eligible for your vote, worry not -

Voting Criteria for each category

• Jazz Album of the Year (released in 2016 by a UK band or musicians)
• Jazz Vocalist of the Year (UK-based vocalist who impressed in 2016)
• Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year (UK-based musician who impressed in 2016)
• Jazz Ensemble of the Year (UK-based group who impressed in 2016)
• Jazz Venue of the Year (including jazz clubs, venues, festivals and promoters)
• Jazz Media Award (including broadcasters, journalists, magazines, blogs, listings and books)
• Jazz Education Award (to an educator or project for raising the standard of jazz education in the UK)
• Jazz Newcomer of the Year (UK-based artist, musician or group with a debut album released in 2016)
• Services to Jazz Award (to a living person for their outstanding contribution to jazz in the UK).

Seven Jazz wins Venue of the Year at Parliamentary Jazz Awards

Congratulations to Steve Crocker, Jean Watson and the team at Seven Jazz for scooping the Venue of the Year award at this year's Parliamentary Jazz Awards. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in London last night.

Parliamentary Jazz Award Nominees Announced

Congratulations to Jamil Sheriff and Seven Jazz for their nominations in this year's APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

The full list of nominations was announced this week ahead of the awards ceremony on 10th May. Jamil Sheriff is nominated for the Jazz Education Award and Seven Jazz receives the nomination for Venue of the Year.

Voting Now Open for the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Awards

It's that time again! Voting is now open for the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. From the results of this open voting system, nominees for each category will be chosen and the winners will be announced at the ceremony at the House of Commons on May 10th.

Voters can submit one nomination for each of the following categories -

APPJAG Jazz Awards 2015 Winners Announced

The APPJAG Jazz Awards ceremony took place earlier this week, seeing LCoM alumnus Phil Meadows pick up the Jazz Ensemble of the Year award for his 23-piece crossover orchestra, The Engines Orchestra. Congratulations to Phil and all the other winners!

APPJAG Parliament Jazz Award Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 2015 APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Awards have been announced featuring a number from the Northern jazz scene.

Scarborough's Mike Gordon has been nominated for the Services to Jazz Award, and Manchester Jazz Festival is up for venue of the year. LCoM alumnus Phil Meadows also received a nomination for Ensemble of the Year for his newly formed Engines Orchestra and Tim Garland, who mentored Phil and Engines Orchestra during the recording of their debut album, received a nominated for album of the year.

The ceremony will take place at the House of Commons on March 10th, presented by Moira Stewart and featuring performances from James Pearson and the Ronnie Scott All Stars.

Voting Open for APPJAG Jazz Awards

Voting is now open for the 2015 APPJAG Jazz Awards. Due to the May 2015 election, the jazz awards have been moved forward and the winners ceremony will take place in London on March 10th 2015.

The first round of voting, open to the public, covers all 11 categories (including ensemble of the year, album of year etc) and will contribute to the shortlist produced and given to a panel to decide on the winners.

Votes are cast online and close on December 12th 2014.

APPJAG Jazz Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2014 APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Awards were announced last night at a ceremony in London and the North was well represented with winners in three catergories.

Phil Meadows (pictured above), graduate of Chethams School of Music and LCoM picked up Newcomer of the Year, while clarinettist and composer Arun Ghosh went home with Instrumentalist f the Year. Ben Cottrell was there to accept the Large Ensemble of the Year award on behalf of his group, Beats + Pieces.

Congratulations to all the winners from all at NJN.

NYJC's Issie Barratt, who received Educator of the Year Award from Lord David Steel and Jon Newey, Jazzwise, made this request to musicians present to consider making it easier for young people to attend jazz gigs.

APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Award shortlists announced

Jazz in the North is well-represented this year in the APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Award shortlist, which was announced today.

Arun Ghosh and Mike Walker are both nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year, while Reuben Fowler and Phil Meadows are up for Newcomer of the Year. Leeds College of Music has been nominated for the Jazz Education Award, as has John Ellis for his work with the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association. All the nominations for Venue of the Year as festivals this time round, including Manchester Jazz Festival and Beats & Pieces are up for Large Ensemble of the Year.

The winners will be announced at the House of Commons on May 13th.

These shortlists demonstrate the wealth of talent and commitment that exists in the British jazz scene. Now in its 10^th year, the Parliamentary Jazz Awards honours the best of British jazz.
