Gig Preview: Secret Keeper at Fusebox, November 26th

Pianist Laura Cole has got in touch about an upcoming gig at Fusebox in Leeds on November 26th, featuring a rare UK appearance by two US musicians - Mary Halvorson and Stephan Crump.

'I'm really excited about the Stephan Crump/ Mary Halvorson gig at the Fox and Newt on November 26th, particularly as this is their only UK date. It is a real honour to be supporting them with the new trio I'm in, with drummer Pete Fairclough and double bass player Seth Bennett.'

SECRET KEEPER
Stephan Crump - bass, Mary Halvorson - guitar

An incredibly rare and exclusive opportunity for the Fusebox audience to enjoy a one-off UK appearance by this very special duo.

“A laboratory for two of the most inventive string players working today...luminous, hushed, reflective, whimsical, dramatic, gripping, edge-of-your-seat soundscapes imbued with architectural savvy...” –Jim Macnie (Village Voice)

Guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson has been active in New York since 2002, following jazz studies at Wesleyan University and the New School. Critics have called Ms. Halvorson “NYC’s least-predictable improviser” (Howard Mandel, City Arts), “the most forward-thinking guitarist working right now” (Lars Gotrich, NPR.org) and “one of today’s most formidable bandleaders” (Francis Davis, Village Voice).

Memphis-bred, Grammy-nominated bassist/composer Stephan Crump is a rising light on the New York music scene. As a longtime collaborator with adventurous jazz composers (since 1999 with Vijay Iyer) as well as guitar wizard Jim Campilongo and singer-songwriter Jen Chapin and as leader of his own Rosetta Trio, he has become known for the elegance and purposeful groove of his acoustic and electric bass playing, and for transforming his instrument into a speaking entity with magnetic pull on audiences.
