Following on from Fat Face Trio's UK tour in June, Apollo Jazz Network welcomes another US group to perform in the UK this month - vocal-led bossa nova band Veronneau.
Formed in Washington DC in 2010, the group have performed to sell-out crowds at festivals, jazz clubs and concert halls both in the US and in Europe. Their two albums, Joie De Vivre and Jazz Samba Project have charted in the top 10 on jazz radio shows and during their last UK visit, they performed on BBC radio.
Most recently, the band undertook a large-scale project in collaboration with the Strathmore Arts Center, receiving a coveted National Endowment for the Arts award to fund a festival and film celebrating the influence of Brasilian music on jazz, specifically centred around the 1962 release of the Stan Getz album Jazz Samba.
For these July tour dates, Veronneau will be joined by a number of special guest musicians resulting in 4 unique performances. Their Leeds date will also feature the UK premiere of their film, curated by Ken Avis and film-maker Bret Primack - Bossa Nova: The Brazilin Music That Seduced the World.
