The Lescar has been hosting high-quality jazz gigs in Sheffield for the last 15 years and 2013 marks a big change. Guitarist and dedicated promoter Chris Walker has decided to take a well-deserved rest from promoting and has handed the night over to Jez Matthews and Sheffield Jazz. Jez has taken up the main organisational duties, supported by Sheffield Jazz and has put together a strong programme of music for early part of 2013. The intention is to maintain and build upon the existing music policy, to provide an inclusive forum for touring bands of all types, and also the very best local musicians.

The Sheffield jazz community can rest assured that Jazz At The Lescar is in safe hands. As well as being involved in the Sheffield Jazz organisation, Jez is a jazz pianist who has become a fixture at jazz venues around Sheffield, as well as appearing further afield at events ranging from functions to festivals. He has become known as a sensitive accompanist for singers including Tracey Stewart-Fry, Karen Lake, and Rosie Brown, as well as featuring in various other instrumental duos, bands, occasionally his own trio and sometimes solo. To top it all off, he also ventures into jazz journalism - as you can see in his contribution to LondonJazz with his review of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Just like guitarist Chris Walker before him, Jez is a passionate supporter of jazz as musician, promoter and listener.

2013 is shaping up to be a good year for The Lescar - their programme features Dave Hamblett Group, Roller Trio, Stuart McCallum and Mike Walker (and that's just January to March!)

Thanks for a great piece, and for linking to the nice piece Jez wrote for us.

And Jez more power to you and you're very welcome to write more!

Hurrah for Messrs. Walker and Matthews! Where would we be without fantastic people like this?

First night with Stuart McCallum, Pete Turner, and Dave Walsh was fantastic and, happily, very well attended. The future looks bright...
