Martin Taylor has one of the busiest touring schedules in the business. His solo and duo shows tour across the world and he runs guitar retreats in picturesque locations like the Amalfi Coast, Upstate New York and California. Starting from today, though, he will be travelling a bit closer to home as he embarks on an 11 date tour of the UK.

Martin is considered, both by audiences and by his peers, as being right at the top of his field. His work with the legendary Stephane Grappelli is well-known and the unique style of his solo performances has led to a global community of guitarists who look to him for advice and tuition.

The tour kicks off tonight (Tuesday 15th September) in Guildford and continues until the 27th of September with a number of dates in the North. Full tour dates can be found below and you can visit Martin's website for more information on shows, guitar retreats and more.

The 2014 Swaledale Festival programme has been announced, with arts, music and poetry events running from May 25th until June 7th.

Among the many music events scheduled for this year, there will be two jazz acts  - Brass Jaw and Martin Taylor.

From their press release

Glasgow-based four-piece Brass Jaw has recently made waves at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam and the Rochester Jazz Festival in New York. Working without a traditional rhythm section, Brass Jaw has established a name for drive and charisma, and for venturing into new musical territories. Brass Jaw performs at 7:30 on Monday, 26 May.

Martin Taylor, described by Pat Metheny as "one of the most awesome solo guitar players in the history of the instrument" closes the 2014 Swaledale Festival at 7:30 on Saturday 7 June, when he appears with Martin Simpson, one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world.
The Swaledale Festival runs from 24 May to 7 June. There are 60-odd events, including classical music, folk, jazz, talks, poetry readings and guided walks. Events are individually ticketed, and take place in dozens of venues in the beautiful North Yorkshire dales. Details and tickets at www.swalefest.org or through the Festival Box Office (01748 880019, 10-4, Monday-Saturday).
