For such a small island, Jamaica has a massive musical influence on the world. This course is an exploration of the music and idioms of Jamaican culture from ska to bluebeat, reggae to dub.

On the way, myths and misconceptions will be exposed and participants will gain a deeper and more meaningful understanding of this great tradition.

We will also look at how the song writing, production and music itself has spawned into modern genres from punk to dub step.

Professional musicians Chris Campbell and Sam Hobbs have worked together recording and performing in many different guises for over ten years.

They have recorded and performed with a who's who of artists in pop, dance, jazz and reggae music including Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Acoustic Alchemy, Freddie McGregor, The Vaccines, Franz Ferdinand, Finley Quaye, Eek-A-Mouse and Steve Malkmus (Pavement).
