Preview - Jack DeJohnette Group PLUS competition!

NOVEMBER 14TH - 7.45PM
HOWARD ASSEMBLY ROOMS
See www.jazzyorkshire.org/calendar

Jack DeJohnette will be visiting Leeds in November, celebrating his 70th birthday in fine style with live dates across Europe and America and in the UK with a quintet that includes the brilliant saxophonist Don Byron, Marvin Sewell (guitar), George Colligan (keyboard) and Jerome Harris (bass).

This is a truly unmissable gig and we've managed to get our hands on two free tickets to give away to a lucky winner. Just answer this simple question to be in with a chance:

As well as drums and percussion, which other instrument does Jack play?

Send in your answer to blogATjazzyorkshire.org ( replace AT with @) or via www.jazzyorkshire.org/contact and we will draw the winner on November 1st!

About Jack DeJohnette
In a career that spans over half a century, Jack DeJohnette has collaborated with a veritable who's who of jazz giants including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins, Sun Ra, Thelonious Monk and Herbie Hancock to name but a few. He has also worked with musicians outside the jazz canon, such as Foday Musa Suso, the innovative Mandingo Griot and master of the Gambian Kora. Throughout his career he has also maintained a long-standing relationship with ECM appearing on more ECM albums than any other musician; his numerous recordings for the label display his subtle, powerful playing and the melodic approach to drums and cymbals that makes his touch instantly recognizable.

Not only will Jack DeJohnette be celebrating his 70th birthday - earlier this year he was awarded a coveted Jazz Masters Award, in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to advancing the jazz art form and for serving as a mentor for a new generation of young aspiring jazz musicians. On top of that, he also released a stunning new album, Sound Travels, a superb genre-spanning collection featuring yet another jaw-dropping array of collaborators.
